Project description:
The subject of the works were the individual structures: the reconstruction of the area of the Red Army monument on Moravské náměstí in Brno, incl. restoration repairs of the soldier statue, which is the work of Vincent Makovský and is a cultural monument, as well as the reconstruction of the park “Koliště III – behind the Janáček Theater”.
The repair of the soldier statue consisted of disassembly and transport to the restoration workshop, removal of surface contamination, surface inhibition and surface treatment, reassembly. The original stone walls at the monument were dismantled and, after the subsoil was rehabilitated by micropiles, they were restored to their original form. Underground spaces under the monument were newly discovered, where concrete structures and interior spaces were rehabilitated. The stone paving and stairs around the monument were also dismantled and all these stone elements were cleaned, fitted back according to the original plans, rejointed and impregnated. The stone mosaic in the area of 687 m2 near the monument was completely removed and hand-laid from pebbles. The paved areas around the monument were completely reconstructed to the original material and height condition. In addition to the walkable areas, a nanohydrophobic coating was applied to these stone elements and the base of the statue to prevent premature contamination.
In addition, the park paths and paved sidewalks were reconstructed. The construction of the sidewalks was made of concrete paving in an area of 1 744 m2. For the park pedestrian paths, a packed-gravel or paved surface was chosen, stone paving of cubes 2 698 m2. 1,248 m2 of asphalt were laid for the common sidewalk and the cycle path in the upper sidewalk.
In the park under the Janáček Theater, the water features – fountains – were reconstructed. These fountains were fitted with new equippment in new shafts and also with a new connection. These structures include a fountain made of a reinforced concrete bowl made of white concrete with a stone rim, a fountain with a sculpture and 2 fountains with a stone rim.
Rest areas and areas for leisure activities, furniture – chess tables, oak benches, metal benches, game elements for children, a drinking fountain were newly built. As part of the reconstruction, there were also vegetation modifications, which consisted in the protection of existing trees, felling and inventory of trees and new construction of trees, shrubs and flower beds. This involved a total of 4 570 shrubs, plants, trees and lawn restoration spanning an area of 13 447 m2.
Furthermore, all utility networks were newly built, including public lighting.
