Description:
The bridge brings the road I/73 over the river Topľa in front of the town Giraltovce. It has a single span with two hollow beams, between which a filigree slab is fitted. The bridging length is 63 m. The total length of the bridge is 79 m and the width 11.7 m. Due to its poor structural condition, this bridge was reconstructed.
The reconstruction of the bridge took place in halves during partial traffic and consisted of the demolition of the complete bridge superstructure using a slope slab, which includes new bridge drainages. Due to the installation of new sub-surface elastic bridge joints, it was necessary to remove the original closing walls along with the transition plates and replace them with new ones. The new slope slab was re-insulated, new stone curbs were installed and subsequently a new road formation was laid. Both the railing barrier and a separate barrier and railing were installed on the ledges.
The reconstruction of the bridge also included the rehabilitation of the abutments and the ledges. The concrete surfaces were completely blasted, locally rehabilitated and then provided with a unifying double protective coating.
